Wiktorówki - The Marian Worship Site

Summary: The Sanctuary of the Mother of God from Jaworzyna is situated in the Tatra Mts., on the altitude of 1150 m a.s.l. (the Wiktorówki Glade). It belongs to Cracow diocese and is kept (since 1958) by order of Dominicans. The Marian worship at Wiktorówki began in 1860, when the Mother of God revealed to the 14-year girl, Marysia Murzańska. Proclamations of the Holy Mary were the callings to a penance and to a regret for sins. To remember this event, the paper image of the Mother of God was put at this site, and later, in the end of the 19th c. an unknown sculptor made the wooden statue of Her, an object of the worship. This statue called 'The Mother of God from Jaworzyna' was coronated according to the Papal law on 2nd August, 1992. In 1936 the present chapel began to be built. The first pilgrimages came to Wiktorówki in 1910, 1912 and 1913 - there were the pilgrimages supplicating the good weather. The peculiar growth of the pligrim traffic is observed in the post-war period - annually there are 5000 pilgrims and tourists. The greatest number of them is observed during the principal indulgence, on 15th August. Besides highlanders from the region, there are also the pilgrims from more distant dioceses. The peculiar character have also the Pastor masses and those in the New Year. The discussed Sanctuary, due to its site and the mood, is the unique of this type in Poland, therefore its scope and rank grow constantly.
