The parish under the invocation of St. Rozalia as a new pilgrimage destination

Summary: In the work the specific character of a created in 1983 parish under the invocation of St. Rozalia in the town of Szczecinek was shown. The history of erection of the church and of the adjacent Calvary occupying an area of 0,4 ha was presented. The Calvary consists of 15 Stations of the Cross, stations of the saint patrons as well as stations symbolizing selected episodes of the Szczecinek history. Some stations, as additional elements, have rocks built in and originating from different parts of the world, inclusive of numerous sanctuaries. The common characteristic of both the church and the Calvary buildings is the predominance of field-stone as a constructive element. The stone was collected more than 20 years on the area of nearly 900 sq. km around Szczecinek. Considering a great amount of the stone used in the construction, the Szczecinek Calvary may be recognized as the unique in the north part of Poland. In 2006 the parish-priest Andrzej Targosz put out an inscription book for tourists. Their number may be estimated in tens of thousands within one year. Undoubtedly, it proves the "peculiarity" of this unusual sanctuary.
